The history of SHOT
The Student Wind Orchestra of Twente was founded in 1991. This orchestra, better known as
is connected to the University of Twente in Enschede. On average the orchestra consists of
60
musicians from the university and surrounding universities of applied science. Since the
year
1993, the orchestra is conducted by Ronny Buurink. Since the foundation of the orchestra,
SHOT
has the tradition to give two concerts at the university campus. To prepare for those
concerts
the orchestra members come together in a remote place where they work on the final touch of
the
music pieces. Next to those performances at the campus, you can also check us out in other
places in the Netherlands.
Other traditions of SHOT are going on a concert trip every other year, this is organized by
a
separate committee. During those trips, the orchestra visits a festival in a foreign country
and
often participates in an international contest. Last years, England, Hungary, Austria and
Spain
were visited.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of SHOT, the orchestra made a trip to China. For the 25th
anniversary in 2016, a concert was given in the Muziekcentrum of Enschede. Another highlight
is
the concert performed in 2015 in collaboration with the Symphonic Wind Orchestra Amsterdam
in
the Beurs van Berlage and a year later the collaboration with the Royal Wind Orchestra
‘Oefening
en Uitspanning’ in ‘s Hertogenbosch.
In 2016, the concert trip went to Budapest, Hungary and Vienna and Schladming, Austria.
During
the Mid Europe Festival in July 2016, SHOT got a result of 92,86 points in division B. The
jury
was satisfied and resulted in the first place in this class and the second place in the
total
ranking.
In March 2018, SHOT participated in a contest in Zutphen and got the good result of 88,83
points
in the first division. Also, in the summer of 2018, the concert trip went to England and the
orchestra visited Bristol and London.
A picture of the last concert trip and a movie of a piece of the contest from Zutphen can be
